Data sources

Snake taxonomy and species records come from The Reptile Database, with geographic counts based on its worldwide diversity regions; species that occur in multiple regions may be counted more than once. Common names and photos are retrieved from iNaturalist when available. Snakebite estimates come from the WHO fact sheet and a 2017 study of the Americas; their regional measures use different definitions and are not directly comparable.
